Food combinations on Instragram that shouldn’t work…
…but might do
Most of us probably have created some weird food combinations at some point or have a favourite go-to combination. My personal favourite throughout my childhood was cheese and jam on toast and it surprises me every time when most people completely fail to understand the ingenuity of this match made in heaven. But of course we all have different tastes and that’s what makes life interesting, different strokes for different folks and all.
Instagram is a particularly interesting place to get an insight into the food in people’s lives and here are my top favourite and wonderfully weird food combinations. Bon appétit!
1.Milkshake and Fries
This girl is a girl after my own heart, fries dipped into milkshake-especially banana-is a top, top combination and a great alternative to ketchup. Switch up your condiment game!
2.Ketchup and Mayonaise
Another way to enhance your dipping is by combining the two favourites that are Ketchup and Mayo. Even though I have only ever seen someone do this once in the UK, I know that this is probably the most popular choice together with fries in other European countries such as Germany, where it is referred to as ‘red white’. You can actually buy this which already combines the two, who knew!
3.Popcorn and Milk
The mainstream use of popcorn is as a film companion really, isn’t it? But this Instagram user shows us that it is not just a one hit wonder. Add this to your breakfast options- popcorn cereal!
4.Peanut Butter and Gherkins
Peanut butter is the boss of combinations but I don’t know if I can get behind this one. This guy suggests putting peanut butter and gherkins together in a sandwich, hmmm…
5.Christmas Cake and Cheese
This girl asks ‘is this just a Yorkshire thing?’. Yes, yes I think it might be.
6.Spaghetti Pizza
When having to choose between the two, the choice between pizza or pasta is always a hard one if you’re a fan of Italian food. So, why not combine the two?
7.Chocolate Bacon
Couldn’t think of a healthier combination
8.Turkey Stuffing & Smoky Bacon Doughnuts
Tesco have just started selling these for christmas and I’m intrigued but also think it’s kind of wrong. Suitable name though!
9.Cheese and Onion Crisps Chocolate
These became available to buy in Ireland last year after the company Tayto decided to take their cheese and onion crisps to a new level and created this concept of crisps…in a chocolate bar
10.Apple Sauce Spaghetti
Most people like their Spaghetti with a nice bolognese sauce, a tomato sauce or carbonara but apple sauce is definitely a new one. Guess you could call this a pasta dessert
11.White Hot Chocolate and Cottage Cheese
This tastes like a ‘white chocolate cheesecake’ apparently. It may taste like one, but the texture…
A few other strange combinations that are out there: dipping cookies into orange juice, krispy kreme burger, fish fingers with custard, mayonaise and peanut butter sandwich & a parmesan and dark chocolate sandwich
