Christmas. For many, a time that means being surrounded by your friends and family. But what about those that aren’t going to be in that situation this Christmas time?

Loneliness can be a real issue around the festive period. A study by the Samaritans recently showed that nearly one in two men feel depressed around Christmas.

No one should spend this time of year alone so GrubClub and Airbnb have come up with a great idea to host a joint ‘Bring your own Christmas’ lunch on the 25th December.

The idea is that everyone who attends has to bring their version of a festive dish and a bottle of the good stuff. Provided by Airbnb, the world’s largest community driven hospitality company, the event will be held in a loft of an apartment in central London.

Everyone who wants to join has to bring a fiver which will go to the homeless charity Crisis.

A spokesperson for GrubClub said that this idea is ‘an alternative for people that want to do something with friends – or even make friends – but hate the idea of a soulless restaurant or being home alone’

Holly Clarke, acting Country Manager Airbnb UK said: “We want to achieve an environment where, whoever you are and wherever you are in the world, you feel at home. Being away from your friends and family shouldn’t mean that you miss out on a great Christmas…”

And that really is very true, isn’t it? So for anyone alone in London this Christmas…get involved!
