Amanda Holden was at the Westfield Shepherds Bush Shopping Centre in London today to reveal an absolutely MASSIVE cake. So big, in fact, that this cake is attempting to break the Guinness World Record title for the world’s largest cake sculpture which is a title currently being held by King Abdulaziz International Airport in Saudi Arabia.

This attempt is being launched by Fairy as part of the annual Bake-A-Wish® fundraising effort in order to raise donations for the charity Make-A-Wish. Holden says: “As a patron of Make-A-Wish it is a charity that is dear to my heart and does such wonderful things for truly deserving children and young people. This GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS attempt has the potential to raise a huge amount of money for the charity which will be used to help grant more magical wishes.” Make-A-Wish helps grant magical wishes for young people and children with life-threatening illnesses.

This humongous cake landscape, made by 45 people, will feed at least 12,000 people and the rule is that it MUST be eaten as the World Record rules state that ‘after the attempt, the food item must be divided and distributed or donated for general consumption.’ Fairy will also aim to wash up all 12,000 dirty cake plates with just one 870ml bottle of Fairy Original washing up liquid! That’s a lot of washing up with very little washing up liquid!

The record attempt was launched by actress and presenter Amanda Holden. She cut the first slice of the giant cake sculpture which stands at a gigantic 12metres x 10metres, compared to the cake in Saudi Arabia which measured in at 11.70 metres long by 9.20 metres wide. The cake will be at the centre from Friday 28th November to Sunday 30th November 2014, so if you’re around London then head down and get a piece of this fun for a suggested donation of £1.

The cake weighs almost two ton in total and if you’re wondering what ingredients you need in order to build something like this, here is a breakdown:
· 520 kg of caster sugar is equal in weight to 2260 Boris bikes
· 520 kg of wheat flour is as heavy as 650 800g loaves of bread
· 8360 eggs which is more than nine hens will lay in a lifetime
· 668 kg of icing sugar which is heavier than a male cow
· 417 kg of Margarine and butter which is almost 2000 times more than used in Mary Berry’s Victoria sandwich recipe
· 13.94 kg of evaporated milk which is heavier than 16 870ml bottles of Fairy Liquid
· 8.5 kg of vanilla essence would fill 85 100ml bottles of Chanel No. 5

Looks a bit different from your usual Victoria Sponge recipe doesn’t it?
